A metal clay storage tip....

Here's a simple tip....

I cut a small circle out of quilting template material ( available at stores that sells sewing supplies) and another out of a thin sponge.  Moisten the sponge circle with some water and place it in the bottom of a small airtight container (Whole Lotta Whimsy) .  Place the plastic circle with the holes on top of the sponge, your clay on top of the plastic and close the lid.

I have stored clay in these for months and it stays as moist as it was the day I opened the package.

Enjoy!

The Gallery Game

At a recent gallery reception I met a friend I hadn't seen in a while and we had a long talk about placing work in galleries. She had a lot of questions and I thought I would try to answer some of them here on my blog and share the information with others as well. This is the way I would do it...if others have ideas they are willing to share, please comment...I'd love to hear from you.

The first step, of course, is to decide which gallery to approach. Visit a gallery a couple of times as a “customer” before you decide whether to place your art work there. Look at the work of the artists that the gallery already represents...will your work fit? My jewelry tends toward organic shapes and textures...it probably won't fit in a gallery that specializes in sleek, modern styles. Look at the price ranges...You want my work to be in the range...not the highest or lowest...and don't adjust your prices to fit...if they don't fit you need to look at other galleries. Look at the way the art work is displayed ...Is the lighting good? Is the jewelry in theft proof cases? And talk to the staff...do they know their inventory? Are they pleasant and helpful?

By the time you have visited a gallery a couple of times you will have a good idea of whether you want to place your work there...and because you will have a system of presenting your work that works, you can be pretty sure that your work will soon be in a case at the gallery you have chosen :)

Enjoy!
